Join the ATC
Becoming a member of the Aromatherapy Trade Council highlights you and your business as being a highly professional, dedicated and responsible company. Membership is essential for companies committed to growing their business and improving our industry.
Our specialist aromatherapy industry needs input and support from companies like yours. The more companies it represents, the more government and competent authorities will take us seriously and listen to our views and lobbying. And in case you hadn’t noticed, there has never been a more challenging time for the aromatherapy industry than right now.
The ATC relies entirely on membership subscriptions to fund its activities in protecting the industry from continually changing legislation and other issues that threaten our futures. It is therefore only fair that all aromatherapy companies who benefit from these activities should share the financial burden, and you can join the ATC for as little as £250 per year – based on turnover.
In return, your company will be added to our membership list and you will gain recognition as a reputable, ethical and responsible company who is committed to improving quality standards in our industry. These are all the attributes that shoppers are looking for today, and you don’t want to be left out in the cold.
As a member you will gain access to all the latest information on changes to existing legislation and impending legislation and how it will affect your business, thus providing you with another “member of staff” and another set of “ears and eyes” to support your company. We are here to help you in any way we can through the extensive network we have built up over the years and the technical and scientific support we can offer.
Eligibility for Membership
Membership is open to all forms of suppliers, manufacturers and services within our industry, and is available to all who agree to comply with the Terms & Conditions of Membership. Criteria for membership includes;
- Manufacturers and suppliers of essential oils or aromatherapy products and services
- Distributorships with a genuine UK base
- UK based consultants who are involved in the aromatherapy essential oil trade
- Aromatherapists who manufacture and market their own brand
- UK based companies only
Interim Membership
We appreciate that some companies may not currently meet all these requirements. We therefore have a facility within the ATC for Interim Membership as set out in the terms and conditions of membership that allows companies to come on board while their material is being amended or developed under our guidance.
For those companies who are unable to meet the ATC’s membership criteria right now, we have support in place to help them meet compliance, and such applicants may be granted interim membership. We know that it can be a challenge make changes to marketing materials, labels and websites etc, so will work closely with these companies while they become fully compliant.
These applicants will receive all the benefits of ATC membership except that:
- Interim Members will be shown on the ATC’s web site, on the hard copy membership list and on all other membership listings at exhibitions and conferences, indicating that they have applied for ATC membership.
- They will be charged the full annual membership due, calculated on turnover.
- We usually expect full compliance within three to six months, with a maximum interim membership of one year.
- Companies not compliant within that period, interim membership will be relinquished.
- For companies who wish to re-apply for membership, the membership process will then have to start all over again, at the Board’s discretion.
Membership terms and conditions
As a company limited by guarantee, the ATC has in place Memorandum & Articles of Association, Rules & Byelaws and Disciplinary Procedures & Code of Practice. In applying for membership, applicants will undertake to abide by these, and full details are available from the ATC’s office when applying for membership.
Membership fees
Full membership: Subscription renewals are payable on the 1st January in each year, the level of fee being calculated on specified bands of turnover in all cosmetic, toiletry and aromatherapy products within the previous year.
Interim membership: A registration fee is payable upon application and the full annual membership fee is payable upon acceptance into membership.
